Detailed 10-Day Namib Desert Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Kalahari Desert
At 9:00 AM, your guide will pick you up from your pre-booked accommodation in Windhoek for the first part of the journey. Just before Mariental, you will turn east into the Kalahari Desert for an overnight stay at Lapa Lange Game Lodge.
The spacious and comfortable lodge reflects the spirit of the Kalahari, with its red sand, ostrich eggshell light fittings, and camelthorn trees. You will arrive in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you will go on a Bushmen walk. Afterward, you will return to freshen up for dinner, then rest for the night.
Day 2: Kalahari Desert to Keetmanshoop
After breakfast, you will head toward Keetmanshoop. Lunch will be served along the way. Before checking in at Central Lodge, you will visit the Quiver Tree Forest and Giant’s Playground, located 13 km from Keetmanshoop.
You will arrive late in the afternoon and have the rest of the day at your leisure. In the evening, you will freshen up for dinner and then rest for the night.
Day 3: Keetmanshoop to Fish River Canyon
After breakfast, you will depart for Fish River Canyon. Lunch will be served along the way. You will arrive at Canyon Lodge in the mid-afternoon, just in time for an afternoon drive at Gondwana Park.
After a long day, you will freshen up and enjoy a delicious dinner before resting for the night.
Day 4: Fish River Canyon
After an early wake-up call and breakfast, you will meet with your local guide for a Fish River Canyon excursion. Your guide will help you navigate from the upper part of the canyon to the lower part.
Due to high temperatures in the gorge, you will return to the lodge in the afternoon and have the rest of the day at your leisure. In the evening, you will freshen up for dinner and rest for the night.
Day 5: Fish River Canyon to Lüderitz
After breakfast, you will depart for Lüderitz at 6:00 AM to arrive early at Kolmanskop and spend more time exploring before it closes at 1:00 PM. After the visit, you will continue to Lüderitz for lunch.
After checking in, the rest of the day will be spent at your leisure. In the evening, you will freshen up for dinner and rest for the night.
Day 6: Lüderitz to Namib-Naukluft National Park (Sossusvlei)
This morning, you will continue your journey to Namib-Naukluft Park for a two-night stay. Lunch will be served along the way. You will arrive in the late afternoon at The Elegant Desert Lodge, where you will have the rest of the day at your leisure.
After freshening up, you will enjoy dinner before resting for the night.
Day 7: Namib-Naukluft Park
After an early wake-up call, you will meet in the lobby for coffee or tea and rusks. You will then set off for the Sossusvlei excursion in Namib-Naukluft Park. Leaving early will give you a better chance to capture the dunes while the light is soft, highlighting the towering shapes and curves.
You will experience climbing the highest dune, known as Big Daddy, at Sossusvlei. After exploring Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, and the surrounding dunes, you will enjoy a relaxed picnic brunch under a camelthorn tree.
Day 8: Namib-Naukluft Park (Sossusvlei) to Swakopmund
After breakfast, you will travel to Swakopmund for a two-night stay. The drive takes you northwest through changing desert landscapes, including Ghaub and Kuiseb Canyon via Kuiseb Pass.
You will reach the coast at Walvis Bay before continuing north to Swakopmund, where you can enjoy the cool coastal breeze. You will arrive in time for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will explore the town with your guide. Dinner can be enjoyed at one of the famous restaurants.
Day 9: Swakopmund
After breakfast, you will head to Walvis Bay for a morning boat cruise followed by an afternoon Sandwich Harbour Tour. The boat cruise starts at 8:00 AM, where you might spot humpback whales. You will enjoy oysters, sparkling wine, snack platters, and locally brewed Namibian beer.
After the cruise, your local guide will take you on the Sandwich Harbour Tour. You will return at 4:00 PM and be dropped off at the waterfront after an exciting day of marine wildlife sightings and exploring the unique place where the sand meets the sea. Your private guide will then drive you back to Swakopmund.
In the evening, you will walk to a nearby restaurant for dinner and explore the town on foot before resting for the night.
Day 10: Windhoek
After breakfast at the camp, you will drive back south to Windhoek, passing through Okahandja’s woodcarver’s market. Your guide will drop you off at your chosen accommodation in the capital city or at Hosea Kutako International Airport for your flight.
Please ensure that your flight is scheduled for later in the afternoon, as you will not make it in time for a morning departure.
