Detailed 7-Day Namibia Self-Drive Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Hosea Kutako International Airport to Kalahari
Upon arrival in Namibia, you will be welcomed by our representative, who will hand over your welcome pack and give you a detailed briefing about your safari for the next seven days.
The representative will show you to your rental vehicle, go through the paperwork, and answer any questions you may have.
They will also escort you to collect your vehicle. However, the car rental company will guide you through the rental procedures.
After collecting your vehicle, you will begin your journey to your first stop in the Kalahari, a region known for its unique landscapes and interesting wildlife.
Spend your first day on a memorable hike, where you may encounter some of Namibia’s native wildlife, including cheetahs. You will also have the chance to join a fascinating Bushmen walk, learn about the San people, and see demonstrations of their ancient traditions.
Day 2: Namib Naukluft Park (Sossusvlei)
After a delicious breakfast, you will leave the Kalahari and continue your self-drive safari into the heart of Sossusvlei. Here, surrounded by towering sand dunes and vast open spaces, you will experience the beauty of Namibia’s desert landscape.
You will arrive at Hoodia Desert Lodge, a peaceful retreat in the middle of the desert. Relax on your private veranda and enjoy the quiet surroundings.
In the afternoon, you can join the lodge’s guided nature drive at an extra cost.
Day 3: Namib Naukluft Park (Sossusvlei)
After an early wake-up call, you will drive yourself to Namib Naukluft Park or join a lodge-guided tour at an extra cost.
Watch the sunrise as the dunes change colors from gold to deep red. You can climb Big Daddy or Dune 45 and enjoy the incredible views from the top. Explore the unique landscape of Deadvlei, where ancient camel thorn trees stand in the dry clay pan.
On your way back to the lodge, you can visit Sesriem Canyon. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Day 4-5: Namib Naukluft Park to the Coast
After breakfast, your self-drive adventure continues as you head toward the coastal town of Swakopmund. Days four and five will be filled with coastal experiences, culture, and outdoor activities.
You will check in at the Atlantic Garden Boutique Hotel, a comfortable and stylish place to stay.
Swakopmund, with its mix of German colonial architecture and seaside charm, offers a variety of activities. You can enjoy a dolphin and seal cruise, go kayaking, try deep-sea fishing, or take a tour to Sandwich Harbour.
For those looking for adventure, sandboarding on the nearby dunes or quad biking in the desert is a great option.
Day 6: Coast to Erongo Mountain Area
After breakfast, you can take part in an activity of your choice or explore the town before leaving for Hohenstein Lodge, which is located at the base of the highest peak in the Erongo Mountains.
In the evening, the sunset paints the mountains a deep red, creating an incredible view. From the lodge, you can see as far as Spitzkoppe, a famous rock formation.
The lodge is a great starting point for exploring Hohenstein and taking day trips to Spitzkoppe.
Day 7: Departure
After your last night at Hohenstein Lodge, you will drive back to Windhoek in time for your flight. One of our representatives will meet you in Windhoek or at the airport to assist with returning your vehicle.
