Please note that there is no internet nor cellphone network at Sandwich Harbour. With Starlink availability in Namibia, you will need the Starlink roaming package to access internet remotely.
General Internet Access in Namibia
Although many hotels, cafes, and restaurants in Namibia offer Wi-Fi, internet access is easier for visitors in the country’s larger cities and towns. However, the connection can be weak in more rural areas. For a more reliable connection, it is a good idea to get a local SIM card.
If you plan to travel deep into remote areas, using mobile data might not be the best option because signal strength is usually stronger in and around cities like Windhoek and Swakopmund. Still, mobile coverage in Namibia is mostly reliable in national parks and popular safari spots such as Etosha and Sossusvlei.
Wi-Fi is common in many hotels, cafes, and restaurants, especially in big cities like Windhoek, Swakopmund, and Walvis Bay. Some hotels and campgrounds also provide Wi-Fi for guests.
In the countryside, mobile network coverage can be very weak or even unavailable, although it is usually strong in big towns and along major roads. To stay connected in less populated areas, getting a local SIM card is recommended. The main mobile networks in Namibia are MTC and TN Mobile.
MTC offers voice and data bundles through its “Leisure Tourist” and “Premium Tourist” packages, which are made for visitors. To buy and activate these packages, dial *148# and follow the steps to choose your bundle.
Another option for getting online is to use internet cafés, which are available in most towns. If you are driving yourself into remote areas, it is highly recommended to rent a satellite phone. This helps with both safety and navigation.
Even though internet access in Namibia has improved, some places still have slow speeds, especially outside major towns. Namibia has a median download speed of 13.72 Mbps, which is one of the lowest in the world.
