Namibia has long been known as one of the best African safari destinations for families. A well-organized and professional tourism industry covers all the main places. Our selected lodges have kids’ programs, swimming pools, many activities, and a hands-on approach to conservation. It is a safe country to visit, and most areas do not have malaria. Just be well-prepared if you visit Etosha National Park or the Caprivi Strip during the summer rainy season.
You must get a permit from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MEFT) to enter Sandwich Harbour, a Ramsar site in Namibia. These permits are available at MEFT offices in Swakopmund, Windhoek, or Sesriem.
You do not need a permit if you are only passing through Namib-Naukluft Park on the main road. However, you must get permission in advance from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Directorate of Regional Services and Parks Management, to enter certain areas such as Welwitschia Drive, Sandwich Harbour, and other parts of Namib-Naukluft Park.
The MET headquarters in Windhoek are in the Troskie Building on Uhland Street, at the corner of Bismarck Street and Sam Nujoma Avenue in Swakopmund. Permits for Namib-Naukluft Park are only issued at the Sesriem-MET DRSPM Office.
Sandwich Harbour, which is part of Namib-Naukluft Park, requires a permit to enter.
Pets, motorcycles, people riding in open cars or loading areas, hitchhikers, leaving marked roads, abandoning vehicles, pellet guns, slingshots, unsealed firearms, and disturbing animals are all strictly not allowed in any park.
To protect wildlife and the natural beauty of Sandwich Harbour Ramsar Site, the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism (MEFT) created a concession. This helps control entry, manage facilities, and guide visitors and motor vehicle clubs. Tour operators will not face any restrictions, and the concession will not stop other tour operators from visiting Sandwich Harbour.
